The Lump: Part 2

Hey. How you doin’?
Me? I’ve got a cyst. And the cyst seems to be wearing a little hat. A little circular hat that needs to be looked at more closely because if you have a cyst, it’s apparently not a good thing for it to be wearing a hat.
Shit.
So I’ve got an appointment at a local breast clinic for a closer look, next Monday afternoon.
Until then I’ll spend my time between reminding myself that the clinic thinks it’s just a little benign tumor and my head thinking I’m a goner.
Boobs are stupid. I’ll tell you, like I just told my friend Dan, on the phone (hi Dan!) “I’ve hated my boobs since the day I got them.”
I’m sure Dan appreciated hearing that. Dan likes to hear about my lady parts. Right, Dan?

It does not surprise me that you would have a cyst with a fashion sense, Kathy. I would expect it from you. Sending good thoughts your way. I hope it’s nothing, but you’re very smart to follow up right away. I have had several call backs for mammograms, and it’s never been anything, but damn it’s unnerving. Hang in there.
I, like Mary, have had several callbacks and they have always been nothing. I have fibrocystic breasts so I’ve got lots of lumps. Will it make you feel better if I tell you that the Dr. told me that painful lumps are a good thing? Of course mine are always extremely painful by the time I get to the Dr. because I press on them about 20 times an hour until the Dr. sees me.
Please know I’m sending POSITIVE vibes to you!!
Oh, by the way, I did have one lump removed because it had atypical cells – that doesn’t mean cancer – it just means the cells were different than the ones around it.
Count me amongst your many readers who have the lumpy boobies. First lump at age 12, first mammogram at age 32, counless ultrasounds, two biopsies, a removal of one, and the battle sca to show for it. Had a normal mammogram must a couple of months ago — something I haven’t had in in 8 years. Not to get all personal with you and your lady business, but lumps come and go with me, sometimes correlating to my cycle, sometimes not.
I won’t tell you to worry because you’re going to do that anyway– who wouldn’t. But do know that most likely it is a cyst and it will turn out to be nothing. In the mean time try not to read scarey things on the internet and scare the bejeebezus out of yourself. And one last thing to comfort you, the one I had removed was HUGE and it popped up out of nowhere within couple of months of a mammogram. Turned out to be something called a fibroadenoma, and it hurt like hell.
Hugs to you funny lady. And this too shall pass. Stupid lumps, stupid boobs.
Another lumpen booben here. Had callbacks most of last year every couple of months. Sonograms, mammograms. Was and still is nothing. But I know the stress. Also a previous time the lump was caused by an underwire. Catch 22 there. (Well, more of a Catch 36C, I guess.) You are smart to follow up right away. Boobs are … well, boobs. Stupid boobs.
This is why I write. You people help keep me sane. And you let me know that I was right, boobs are stupid. I heart all of you!
I recently had my only mammogram in the last ten years that did not also include callbacks, ultrasounds, and/or needle biopsies. (And one referral for a breast MRI.) The ultimate diagnosis, of course, is lumpy, stupid boobs. And all the lumps hurt, especially when they’re pushing on them with the ultrasound thingy. Some of us are just lumpy, cysty people, I think. Welcome to the club.
When my lump was first discovered, my primary doctor asked if it hurt. “Not until the tech had imaged it six ways of Sunday.”
However, my primary doesn’t take chances; she sent me to a surgeon for a needle biopsy. Now, that one hurt. But I continued to feel in safe hands.
For those who are not my regular readers, I will repeat that my five-year mammo, last month, was totally clear.
I will be thinking of you next Monday afternoon when I am having my mammogram. Most lumps are benign. It’s a fact!
First and foremost I’m thinking of you and hoping this is a passing lump issue..as in passing grades only. Secondly, I’ve hated my two since I got them too. I’d rather not have ’em and think flat chested girls don’t know how lucky they are!
